Forage Crop Update

Forage crop was planted about 3.5 weeks ago.  Here are some pictures of what is looks like now; looking pretty good so far.  Next time we will take pictures with a real camera, not the camera phone.

May 10th, 2013

We planted the forage crop on May 5th.  The soil was good and moist so it was time to get the seed in the ground.  Hopefully it will be ready to turn the pigs on by Mid/Late June.  Below are some pictures.

Today we planted most of our produce garden.  This year we have also invested in a water reel irrigation system to help with our crop.  Some pictures from planting today.

Last week we took in a few hogs for butcher to the USDA Butcher, Mikes Meat Market, in Sterling for pork meat cuts.  We will be able to pick them up at the end of the month and will have them just in time for our first Farmers Market this year.  Come visit us at the Louisville Farmers Market in Louisville, CO.  Opening day of the Market is June 1st and we will be attending every other weekend. We will have pork meat cuts, whole and half hogs, eggs and some other goodies for sale the first few markets and we will be taking pre-orders on the Heritage breed chickens we are raising. Chickens will be available in early July. Produce will be available as it is ready to harvest starting in July. They have entertainment scheduled almost every weekend at this market, so stop by for some family fun and great shopping. We hope to see you there.
